Salaam is an original painting by Spanish artist and photographer Chio, created around the idea of closeness, unity, and the peace we wish for one another.
The artwork shows two women embracing, drawing on the sense of togetherness that becomes especially present during Ramadan, when families, friends, and communities gather more often and ordinary moments of greeting and connection can feel especially meaningful.
At the centre of the piece is the word salaam, a greeting shared throughout the year and one that carries far more than hello. It speaks to peace, care, and goodwill, making the artwork a reminder of the closeness we seek with the people around us and the peace we hope for more widely.
Although the painting was created with the atmosphere of Ramadan in mind, its message reaches beyond the month itself. It is a card for friendship, family, encouragement, reconciliation, celebration, or simply reminding someone that they are held close.
The original artwork was commissioned by SPINDLE and later developed into a greeting card and art print.
