Maanika, meaning “ruby” in Hindi, is a beautifully preserved vintage kantha quilt with a strong sense of depth and detail.

On one side, a rich ruby corner meets a deep aubergine base, forming a striking contrast. This surface is defined by a hand-embroidered grid, where each square holds a delicate floral motif. Accents of lime and fuchsia thread bring subtle brightness, while a fine border and wider stitched edge frame the composition.

The reverse shifts into a deep terracotta tone, where larger floral forms gently emerge from beneath the surface. Glimpses of the original sari layer can be seen throughout, adding to the layered character of the piece. Fine diagonal kantha stitching in soft pink, green, and white runs across the surface, creating a quieter, more understated texture.

Designed to be reversible, Maanika offers two distinct sides, each with its own depth and balance of colour.

Giving back

This piece supports the continuation of kantha, a craft rooted in the Bengal region and passed down through generations.

By repurposing pre-loved saris, it continues this tradition of renewal, keeping textiles in circulation and reducing waste.

A portion of proceeds is shared with marginalised communities through our ongoing partnership with human rights organisation Restless Beings.

For every order placed, we also plant a tree, contributing to long-term environmental restoration.

Discover

Kantha

Kantha is a centuries-old stitching tradition from the Bengal region, spanning present-day West Bengal and Bangladesh.

Originally created within the home, layers of worn cloth were stitched together using small running stitches to form quilts for everyday use. Today, this practice continues as a way of preserving both craft and a philosophy of care, renewal, and resourcefulness.
