The Inverted Keffiyeh offers a striking reinterpretation of the classic black-and-white design. Inspired by the effect of photographic negatives, where light and dark are reversed, this piece transforms the familiar pattern into something unexpected, shifting perspective while remaining rooted in tradition.

By inverting the colours, the keffiyeh invites a different way of seeing, one that holds onto the original meaning while allowing space for reinterpretation. It reflects how heritage can evolve without losing its essence, shaped by both memory and imagination.

Sourced from Al-Khalil (Hebron), West Bank, Palestine, where one of two remaining keffiyeh factories in the region continues to produce authentic Palestinian keffiyehs, each piece supports the continuation of a craft that has endured despite growing pressure from imitation and mass production.

As part of our seconds collection, this keffiyeh may include minor imperfections. Given its handmade nature, slight variations in weave, tassels, and pattern are to be expected, each one carrying the mark of the hands that made it.

Care
We recommend hand washing, as the fabric and tassels are delicate. Machine washing may damage the finish.
If needed, gently spot clean the marked area. The mark may or may not fade with washing.
The tassels are stitched with a continuous thread. If any loose threads appear, avoid pulling them and instead secure them with a stitch to prevent damage.

Keffiyeh / Kufiya

The keffiyeh, also known as a kufiya, is a traditional Palestinian scarf that has grown into a powerful symbol of identity, resistance, and solidarity. While once worn by farmers across the land, it became widely recognised during the 1930s Arab Revolt, when it was adopted as a unifying symbol in the struggle for Palestinian freedom.

Its patterns are often understood to carry meaning, from the fishnet said to reflect the coastal life, to the lines of trade and movement, and the olive leaves representing resilience and connection to the land. (various opinions)

The keffiyeh holds both everyday function and deeper cultural significance. Worn across generations, today it is worn across the world as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people, their land, and their continued pursuit of freedom.
