Iraja | Kantha Quilt

Iraja – our Daughter of the Wind Kantha Quilt, named after the Hindi word for the spirit carried by the breeze. A vibrant, intricate quilt full of movement, life, and delicate craftsmanship.

On one side, Iraja sweeps across with colour and texture. A third of the quilt is a beautiful lime-green field, meeting a vivid orange border with large lilac flowers and soft green leaves. Beyond this, diagonal bands of purple and warm orange-brown unfold, decorated with delicate floating leaves. A wide border of larger purple flowers follows, leading into another sequence of diagonal lines filled with leafy motifs and finished with a slender orange border detailed with purple flowers. On the other side, soft baby pink and turquoise stripes run diagonally, and with closer inspection, you will notice tiny flowers tucked between the lines. Over all of this, dark kantha stitches run in an opposing diagonal direction, creating a subtle crisscross pattern that dances across the surface.

The reverse of Iraja offers a gentler scene. A delicate leafy design stretches across a soft, light canvas, with beautiful pink and red stripes running through the middle, adding a pop of colour. Shiny gold borders frame the piece, while intricate kantha stitching weaves gracefully across the subtle pattern beneath.
