Iraja, meaning “daughter of the wind,” is a quilt that feels fluid and alive, its patterns unfolding softly across the surface.
Hand-stitched using traditional kantha techniques, it is made from layers of repurposed cotton saris, each one carrying traces of its past. One side brings together lime green, orange, and lilac florals with diagonal bands of purple and warm earth tones, where delicate leafy motifs emerge as the eye moves across the quilt. Fine kantha stitching runs in a gentle opposing direction, creating a subtle crisscross texture that adds depth and movement.
The reverse offers a quieter contrast, with a softer base layered with leafy patterns, intersected by pink and red stripes and framed with fine borders. It is a side that feels lighter, but equally considered.
Designed to be reversible, Iraja shifts easily within a space, bringing colour, texture, and a sense of ease whether laid out or folded.

This piece supports the continuation of kantha, a craft rooted in the Bengal region and passed down through generations.
By repurposing pre-loved saris, it continues this tradition of renewal, keeping textiles in circulation and reducing waste.
