Ananya Rainbow with Sari in the Middle | Kantha Quilt

Ananya is a one-of-a-kind kantha quilt created in collaboration with artisans in the village of Sima Nagar, West Bengal.

Made from three layers, the outer layers are handloomed cotton, with a recycled cotton sari at its core, softly visible when held up to the light. This inner layer adds depth and a quiet sense of history within the piece.

The surface is stitched using traditional kantha, with simple running lines worked freehand across the fabric. Without templates or fixed patterns, the stitch follows its own rhythm, creating a soft, undulating texture rather than a defined design.

Each quilt is finished with a freehand cross-stitch border in varying tones of black, red, green, blue, and yellow, making every piece slightly different.

Subtle variations and joining seams are part of the process, reflecting both the handloomed fabric and a zero-waste approach to making.
