Bandhani is a traditional tie-dye technique closely associated with Gujarat and Rajasthan and is considered one of India’s oldest textile practices.
The pattern is created by tightly tying small sections of cloth before dyeing it. Once the ties are removed, they reveal intricate dotted motifs across the fabric. The process requires patience and precision, particularly in textiles made with hundreds or thousands of individually tied points.
The cover of this notebook is made using a Bandhani fabric off-cut, giving a smaller remnant of hand-dyed cloth a useful new purpose. Each cover is cut from a different part of the textile, making every notebook completely one of a kind.
The ruled pages inside are made from recycled cotton, paper waste and other natural fibres, avoiding the need for virgin paper. Bound by hand in India, the notebook is made for lists, notes, journalling and ideas that deserve a place to stay.
Every piece we send out carries something beyond itself.
A portion of proceeds is shared with marginalised communities through our ongoing partnership with human rights organisation Restless Beings.
For every order placed, we also plant a tree, contributing to long-term environmental restoration.
We support makers and farmers near and far through fair wages and thoughtful partnerships.
We choose natural, biodegradable materials and eco-conscious or plant-based dyes where possible. While we avoid single-use plastic, we reuse any that arrives with deliveries to reduce waste.
A percentage of every order goes to marginalised communities, and every purchase plants a tree.
