Framed Palestinian Tatreez Artwork, pattern by Sliman Mansour
Rooted in tradition and resilience, these exquisite tatreez panels are hand-embroidered by the Surif Women’s Cooperative, located in the hilly region between Bethlehem and Hebron. Each design is adapted from traditional Palestinian dresses and reflects the stitch heritage from different regions of Palestine, bringing together story, symbolism, and style in every thread.
The embroidery itself is stitched on cream-coloured ‘mansouri’ cotton, handwoven in Jerusalem. This distinct fabric sets Surif’s work apart, as most Palestinian embroidery today is stitched on eitamin (cross-stitch canvas). Instead, Surif artisans use a centuries-old thread-counting technique, producing patterns with precise symmetry, beautiful from both the front and back of the fabric.
These particular patterns were developed in collaboration with the celebrated Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour, whose commitment to preserving and celebrating Palestinian culture through art resonates deeply with the mission of the cooperative.
Professionally framed by a local framer using sleek black wood frames, each piece has been carefully stretched to showcase the craftsmanship in full clarity, ready to hang, admire, and honour.
